Update on Grill

Well, he finally got the darn thing put together, after another all afternoon in the backyard. Here he was so proud of himself, and now it was time for me to start a fire in it and cook!  Cool, right?  NOT!  You have to understand, that all I wanted was a firebox, stove stack and a place to smoke, with a wood fire!  This wasn't the type of grill for that purpose!  This is a "charcoal" grill, period!
Well, all my well intentions along with his, went right up in smoke, so to speak!  I built the fire, not a large one, just normal for starting some coals, to smoke with!  But something went wrong and there became a larger fire in a matter of minutes. The insides of the firebox began to catch flame, or should I say the coating of the metal.  I smelled fumes that didn't seem to be right and notice the fire spreading!  This is when I ran for the water hose, turned it on and doused the darn thing.  Fire had started coming outside to the paint and was burning it from the vent hole.  I put out the thing just in time to keep it from exploding into a downright disaster!  POOF!
Now, it's sitting out in the backyard, with burnt wood in the tray, waiting for me to clean it, and get some charcoal to use in it!  Not what I wanted, but will make do till a better day!  His intentions were good, that's what counts.

Storms

Everyday, for over 3 or 4 weeks, we've seen storms, flooding and torrential rains.  Texas, has been a drought zone and now it's a flood zone.  Many have lost their lives, homes and businesses to the heavy flooding.  As for us here in my yard, we've been very lucky and blessed to only have a few limbs fall from the trees.  Thank God!

June

Summer is here and with it comes the bugs, bad weather and extreme heat & drought.  I don't relish any of those subjects.  Here is Texas we always get bad storms and very hot temps.  This causes us to have disasters of all different types.  High winds, hail, lightning and tornadoes.  Just overwhelming to many, when their homes and businesses get torn up.  We've had some storms lately, but none that really were bad enough to cause much damage.  For this we are all thankful.  As you can tell summer is just starting, so our fingers will stay crossed for a few months.
Hurricane season is also here and our coast is subject to many as well.

Limbs

Recently I posted this picture and several others of how the ice storm treated our trees.  Well, as you can see the people next door and all up and down the street, made sure to get their down tree limbs out to the curb.  Yesterday, the crews who remove the limbs that are on the curb removed them.  Needless, to say, my limbs were not our there because a certain person has been too tired to do the job.  Mine still lay in the yard after all this time and I'm not in the mood to hound him about it.

Farm Machinery

Living in a rural area is something I've experienced most of my life.  I'm accustomed to seeing large tractors ahead of me on the FM roads.  It's necessary for the farmers to move their equipment from one field to another, when the work needs to be done.  Naturally, the drivers who are behind them are scowling at them for being slow and in the way of traffic.  I'm sure they are in such a hurry with their own lives and world they can't realize that these farmers are part of what keeps our nation in needed food supplies.
The  farm machinery  they use is a dire implement utilized by all farmers, whether they are owners or laborers.  Each piece of farm equipment is used to do certain jobs necessary for the production of crops and conditioning of the soil for later planting.
The local rural area where I lived was known for it cotton and grain crops.  We have a working cotton gin and grainery in our small town.  The freight trains come through here often and stop to pick up loaded grain cars to take across the states to processing plants.  In the same trip they drop of empty cars to be loaded with more grain held in the huge silos waiting to be shipped.  I haven't noticed the traffic of the cotton, from the "gin" once it's been processed into huge bales.  I have seen many trailers filled with the boles of cotton, that has been gathered by the farmer's and their equipment.
I can even remember sitting under a trailer, when I was young, while my grand parents would pull cotton and place it in the big sacks they towed on their backs down the field rows.  When I grew older, they took cotton ducking and made me a "cotton sack" half the size of theirs so I could pick cotton to make a little money for my Saturday town candy run.  Going to town on Saturday's was something to us back in those years.  Having some jingle in our pockets made us feel good.  The candy was great too and times were considered hard back then.  We had no idea how this world would become so commercialized the way it is today.

Storms

Recently the eastern states have experienced a horrible storm.  The devastation is so bad that it will take a long time for them to clean up and rebuild.  Many lives were lost as well as homes, businesses and properties.  In one area fires broke out leveling the whole housing neighborhood.  Water has flooded towns all up and down the coast, leaving property destroyed or damaged beyond repair.  It seems that area of the coast line, is a direct hit during the hurricanes season.  I don't relish the expense and trauma the people are suffereing.
