My Lilies

About 4 years ago, I took the bulbs that were left from a dead lily plant after the Easter season, had gone.  I planted it in a large flower pot.  The first year it came up but only grew the plant.

But the second year, the plant grew up large and bloomed, with the other shoot growing at the side.  Now, I have two plants that produce flowers, each year in May.  I noticed that other small shoots are coming through the soil, which means it will give me even more plants in the coming years, as long as it stays healthy.

This is my ginger plants, that I rooted back in the winter, and now they are really tall.  It looks like there will be a decent harvest of fresh ginger in a few months.

Freeze

It's looking to have a freeze tonight in our local areas......so, I brought many of my plants inside, to protect them.........the others are covered, or under the front porch.  I hope that's good enough to keep them from freezing! :)

Health Benefits of Beets

Beets

The roots and leaves of beets have plenty of medicinal uses which include the following:
Good for Heart Health: Beet fiber helps to reduce cholesterol and triglycerides by increasing the level of HDL cholesterol (“good” cholesterol). Having a high level of triglycerides increases the risk for heart related problems, so increased HDL is a good line of defense against that. The presence of the nutrient betaine lowers the levels of homocysteine in the body which can also be harmful to the blood vessels. Thus, consumption of beetroot helps to prevent cardiovascular diseases in multiple ways, so conditions like ahterosclerosis, heart attacks, and strokes are less likely to develop. The fiber in beets also works to strip excess LDL cholesterol from the walls and help to eliminate it from the body quickly.   http://nitawatson44.EatLessFeelFull.com
beetroot
Prevent Certain Cancers: Studies have revealed that beets are good at preventing skin, lung, and colon cancer, since they contain the pigment betacyaninis, which counteracts cancerous cell growth. Nitrates used in meats as preservatives can stimulate the production of nitrosamine compounds in the body which can also result in cancer. Studies have now shown that beet juice inhibits the cell mutations caused by these compounds. Researchers in Hungary have also discovered that beet juice and its powdered form slows down tumor development. Adding a healthy weekly amount of beets to your diet can keep your body cancer-free for a very long time.

Temps

It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood.........and the temps are creeping up into the 60's, so that means we are in for some nice weather.  The problem is that we will have some more freezing weather and the trees and spring plants will be confused and get frost bitten.  I guess there will be a problem finding good fruit again this year at the stores.

Flowers in Spring

Here are some of the flowers and shrubs around the front and side of my home.  As I walked out the front door, this is what greets me.  Mom, planted many of these iris's back a few years ago, now I get to enjoy them.  I need to weed eat up around the house in the flower beds.

It won't be long until these beautiful spring flowers will be popping up along the roads here in Texas.  Spring is in the air and just around the corner.

These iris are right at the front door, which gives me pleasure each time I go in and out of the house.

Red Rose

Last year I planted this rose bush and this year it's showing it's approval.  I really love roses and hope to get this nice bush to grow and thrive.
