Lemon Tree Blooms

Since the weather temps have turned cold, I brought my lemon and lime trees in to protect them.  As you can see the Lemon tree has sprouted blooms.

This one opened first and I can't wait to see if it will set fruit and support it.  It had many fruit set back in the summer, but a bad hail storm came along and knocked them all off.  So, since this time they are protected inside, maybe I'll get a few lemons before long.

Green House?

Done right, gardening can be one of the most satisfying hobbies you can ever have. It’s one of the best ways to interact with your earthly roots.  A basic greenhouse can function without having any electricity, but its scope can be greatly improved if you install a well functioning electrical system to it. This is definitely the case if you have any plans to grow tropical plants within your greenhouse. There are also many kinds of temperate plants that require protection from the winter cold, and therefore, having a proper electrical system in place is essential.
This information was borrowed from the website, under the link in this post.  Check it out, for more information about greenhouses.

What's Left

Here you have all that's left of a once tall tree........salute!

At The Ground

Here he goes around the outside of the base, to cut it off at the ground.  Since it is mostly hollow, he used a smaller saw, to go around it.

The Final Blows

Down to the big trunk and it's officially "downed".

Down It Comes

Down to the last big limb, and then the base......

Limb By Limb

Every move he made, was in the form of a safety belt protection.

History Coming Down

150 years of tree coming down today.....

Nita's Gardening Ideas: Cukes Starting to Produce

Nita's Gardening Ideas: Cukes Starting to Produce:   Just a couple more days and these babies will be on my plate! :)

Tomatoes Cukes Peas

Yes, it's finally that time, and I am really enjoying some of the fruits of my labor.........Cukes, peas, tomatoes and beets are all producing right now.  the leaf lettuce has gotten bitter and over grown, so I'll compost it.....but there's a new crop that's trying to survive the heat, here in Texas.  My okra, is on the verge of blooming and starting to make.  I'm so ready for a good mess of okra.  How about you?
Picked some peas this week, but didn't get many, since I didn't plant very many.  I'll save these and keep watering, cause I see new blooms, on the plants which means more peas.  I had to put some 7 dust on them for the aphids, that have started.  Darn pests always ruin a good garden.  It's almost grass hopper time as well and the I'll ready have a fight on my hands.

Along with the peas, you can see my tomato plants, in cages.

My Lilies

About 4 years ago, I took the bulbs that were left from a dead lily plant after the Easter season, had gone.  I planted it in a large flower pot.  The first year it came up but only grew the plant.

But the second year, the plant grew up large and bloomed, with the other shoot growing at the side.  Now, I have two plants that produce flowers, each year in May.  I noticed that other small shoots are coming through the soil, which means it will give me even more plants in the coming years, as long as it stays healthy.

Parsley & Cliantro

These are sprouted from seed.

The bigger plant is one left over from last year, collards and on the right is my beet plants.

Top left are my potato plants and the light green is leaf lettuce.  Also, at the top of this picture on the right are radishes.

And here are two bunches of onion slips, that I purchased from the store and set out.

Tomato Plants

Two of the tomato plants that I grew from seeds.  I transplanted them from the cup I started them in, and they are doing great.  All of my raised bed garden seems to be doing well.

Lettuce

My leaf lettuce is coming on, good and the one darker plant with them, is probably marigolds, that I scattered the same day I planted the lettuce.  I hope the marigolds make good plants this year, so the bugs will go somewhere else.

Ginger

This is my ginger plants, that I rooted back in the winter, and now they are really tall.  It looks like there will be a decent harvest of fresh ginger in a few months.

Mango

Here is my mango tree, that I sprouted from seed back a few months ago.  It stayed in the house all winter, and has started to put on new leaves, since I fed it last week.  Am interested to see what this year's growth will yield.

Potatoes

I guess you could say, I'm proud of my potato plants, as they seem to be growing real well after the last rain.

Beets

Beet plants that came up after the rain a few days ago.

Leaf Lettuce

The tiny 2 leaf plants, are the leaf lettuce just coming up, since the rain a few days ago.

Onion Slips

Bought one bunch of onion slips, which are priced very high, this year.  They are planted and I hope the animals in the area, stay out of my garden, so I don't have to replant them, after they dig them up using it for a potty..........trying to deter them from here......
